RSS

RSS- Really Simple Syndication, or Rich Site Summary.. ..I’d never heard of it before this class, and I never had that “computers101” class, so I’m hoping you guys can help me understand. I found this link to be helpful, but I have a long way to go, as I don’t know what XML means, either. I'll post when I know more...

“RSS is an XML-based vocabulary for distributing Web content in opt-in feeds. Feeds allow the user to have new content delivered to a computer or mobile device as soon as it is published.” (http://searchwindevelopment.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid8_gci813358,00.html – accessed 9/07/08)

Hi Ellen.

I'm in Group A too. I've read your posting, and I agree with you that this thing is new. Really need extra effort to understand all the jargon, terminology plus using it at the same time. However, since your topic is about RSS, I've searched video in youtube about RSS, and found a really helpful video to understand RSS. You might want to check it, too. :)

Hope it helps.

Ellen, I found another video (apparently I think it's more easy to understand RSS through this video, than the previous video I posted you)

RSS basically the web coming to you instead of the you going to the web. So instead of visiting 20 different sites you can go to your RSS feeder, which displays posts from multiple sources and you can decide there what content you are interested in looking at further.

Try looking up Web 2.0 for info on the new tools on the web and how they can work for you.
